Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Yesterday, children in main school and the morning nursery walked down to St Michael's Church to look at the Christmas trees.
There were trees from each of our classes in school and also trees from local businesses and families.
The Church looked absolutely beautiful and when our children sang some of their Christmas songs it really made us feel that Christmas has started.
Thank you to Rev. Karen who spoke to us all and thank you to the parents who joined us to celebrate the start of our Christmas festivities.
On Wednesday 29th November two Year 5/6 teams (boys and girls) took part in the Sportshall athletics competition in Clowne. After several hard training sessions they took part in activities such as a relay, javelin, sprint, obstacle and long jump. The children were very well behaved and put so much effort into the events.
At the end of the competition our school came second and can now go forward to the next round.
Mrs Johnson, who trained the team, was very proud of them and is now planning even more training sessions!
Thanks to the parents who transported the children to the venue and stayed to cheer them on.
Last Monday two teams of children from years 5 and 6 went to the Arc in Clowne for a lawn bowls competition.
They had trained hard at an after school club and two teams competed against other schools in the area.
The children all bowled extremely well but it came down to us and another school in the final. Our children said that it was very nerve-wracking and in the end they came a very credible second.
Thanks must go to Mr Gamble and his team of gentlemen who gave up their time to coach the children. Everyone enjoyed their afternoon of lawn bowls.
Last Friday we had a brilliant day in school - there were children from many Historical eras and lots of Pudsey bears around too. We raised £451 by paying to come in non-uniform, buying cakes and making a trail round the hall of pennies and two pence coins.
Thank you to all the parents who bought / made costumes and cakes - your contributions were greatly appreciated.
here are some of our best bits!
INSET 2019-2020
Inset days for 2019-2020 are Tuesday 3rd September 2019, Wednesday 4th September 2019, Monday 2nd December 2019, Friday 14th February 2020, Friday 22nd May 2020.
On Friday 9th November, the main school all went down to the Pleasley Cenotaph to pay our respects to all those who have lost their lives in Wars. Each class had made their own poppies and we arranged them in the shape of 100 years to remember that it was 100 years since the end of WW1.
Thank you to Rev. Karen Bradley for leading the service and all the parents and friends who supported us.
Wednesday 24th October was the Halloween disco, there were lots of children who went and their costumes were fabulous. The first disco was for KS1 was at 5:15-6:15 PM and the one for KS2 was at 6:15-7:15pm.
All of the children enjoyed it and had lots of fun and there were lots of different costumes and lots of extreme makeup. There was lots of dancing, music and there was a fancy, scary costume competition.
Thank you to all the staff who stayed behind to help and thank you also to all the parents who provided some lovely cakes and biscuits for us to buy.
We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs (don’t be too scared!!)
On Friday our school Choir attended the Bolsover District talent Showcase at Sports Direct in Shirebrook.
The choir consisted of 47 children ranging from the age of 6 up to 11. The children looked absolutely fantastic in their new choir uniform and most of the girls had their hair in a plait with red ribbons.
The evening began at 6pm with a sound check and then the concert began at 7.30pm. Our children sat and listened to three other acts before it was our turn - they listened, clapped, joined in and even danced to some of the songs!
When it was our turn it was already 8pm and despite being tired the children's performance was outstanding. They sounded brilliant as they sang their way through 5 numbers from Disney and The Greatest Showman.
There were several soloists who had to get used to singing with microphones and in front of a large audience.
Talking of the audience, it was great to see how many parents and friends had paid to see our children perform - it makes a huge difference to the children - and the smiles on their faces when they recognised familiar faces in the crowd was a joy to see.
A massive thank you must go to Mrs Johnson who has given up so much of her time to ensure that the choir could perform to such a high quality and thank you also to Mrs Bonsall for helping with the music and the organisation.
After a busy week at work I initially wondered why I had given up my Friday evening for a school event, but the children were amazing - both their behaviour and their performance. I was so glad to be able to accompany them on their first 'gig.' I hear on the grapevine that there might be many more to come!
